species, but do differ in some respects, particularly in the more closely fused gnathos, triangular valvae shape, juxtal configuration, and presence of cornuti (see Annotations in Section 4).
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Mimallonidae" genus="Bedosiallo" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Bedosiallo minimalis" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="minimalis">Bedosiallo minimalis</taxonomicName>
was included in our morphological phylogenetic analyses, and was placed within
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Mimallonidae" genus="Bedosiallo" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Bedosiallo" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Bedosiallo</taxonomicName>
in all analyses (Suppl. materials 5, 7) except the constrained ML analysis (Fig. 1). We attribute the somewhat unique genitalia of
<taxonomicName lsidName="B. minimalis" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" rank="species" species="minimalis">B. minimalis</taxonomicName>
to result in this conflicting placement, and while
<taxonomicName lsidName="B. gentilis" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" rank="species" species="gentilis">B. gentilis</taxonomicName>
and
<taxonomicName lsidName="B. minimalis" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" rank="species" species="minimalis">B. minimalis</taxonomicName>
may eventually prove to belong to an entirely new genus considering such unique traits, we are confident that these small moths are more closely related to
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Mimallonidae" genus="Bedosiallo" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Bedosiallo" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Bedosiallo</taxonomicName>
than
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Mimallonidae" genus="Bedosia" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Bedosia" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="29" pageNumber="30" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Bedosia</taxonomicName>
in comparing the genitalia of all species in
