Diagnosis (based on J.L.
Barnard and Karaman 1991
;
d’Udekem d’Acoz and Verheye

2017)

Body smooth or covered with teeth or processes; processes on pereonites just above connection with coxae, if present, small, not sword-like, not forming large longitudinal carinae. Head high; lateral cephalic lobes very reduced; inferior antennal sinus very shallow; ventral lobe well developed, oriented obliquely downwards, sharp or rounded; rostrum variable, usually well developed, sometimes small or even tiny. Antenna 1 peduncle article 2 shorter than article 1. Mouthparts projecting quadrately. Upper lip almost entire. Epistome not very broad. Lower lip inner lobes absent, outer lobes relatively broad. Mandible incisor toothed, accessory setal row present, molar blunt, strong and triturative. Maxilla 1 palp 2-articulate. Maxilla 2 inner plate without facial row of setae. Maxilliped inner plate narrower than outer; palp article 2 narrow and apicomedially unproduced, article 4 well developed, sometimes absent, with distal nail. Coxae 1–4 progressively longer. Gnathopods 1–2 similar, simple or subchelate; carpus and propodus elongate. Urosomite 1 always with dorsal process, which can be rounded or tooth like, projecting upwards or backwards. Telson usually distinctly incised or cleft, rarely weakly emarginate or entire, without spines or setae. [See
d’Udekem d’Acoz and Verheye (2017: 14)
, for an extensive descriptive diagnosis].
