<paragraph pageId="3" pageNumber="73" type="mainText">Perennial herbs. Rhizomes somewhat thickened, creeping, with a tuft of leaves at apex. Radical leaf blade ovate, cordate, subacute or obtuse, 4-9 cm long, 3-7 cm wide, shallowly or obsoletely lobulate, irregularly toothed, upper surface sparsely hirsute, dark green, lower surface papillose-pilose, pale green often with purplish tinge; petiole 7-15 cm long, hirsute, with fused axillary stipules at base; stipules scarious, oblong, sparsely minutely hairy along margin. Flowering stems ca. 25 cm tall, erect, densely glandular pubescent, hirsute toward base. Inflorescences racemes, many-flowered. Flowers April; pedicel ca. 2 mm long, minutely glandular. Calyx tube campanulate-obconical, densely glandular pubescent, brownish; calyx lobes 5, triangular, acute, nearly glabrous adaxially, glandular abaxially, ca. 1.4 mm long, erect or slightly recurved near tip, brownish purple. Petals 5, subulate-linear or rarely with 1 (or 2) short lobes on one or both sides, glabrous, 1.5-3 mm long, often ca. 5 mm long and 3(or 4)(or 5)-pinnatiparted with obliquely ascending pinnae and glandular dots, reflexed, reddish purple. Stamens 5, alternate calyx lobes, adjacent to base of petals, 1-1.4 mm long; anthers broadly ovoid, cordate, ca. 1 mm long at anthesis, yellow. Disc inconspicuous. Ovary inferior. Styles 2, erect, thick at base, ca. 1.4 mm long; stigmas thickened, 4-lobed. Seeds oblong, ca. 1.1 mm long, scabrous and densely papillose, brownish.</paragraph>

<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="115">This species is immediately identifiable by the appearance of the fore wings which are of normal shape, and uniformly fuscous, without dark patches or strong microtrichiae, in contrast to the elongate and chromatically modified fore wings in the other two species. An additional diagnostic character is the presence of an occipital pit, which is absent in the other two species. The mesosoma is correspondingly less longitudinally compressed, with the mesocutum and mesopleuron being more normal in proportions. The pronotum and occiput are glabrous without the long setae present in the other two species. The acetabular and mesopleural epicoxal sulci do not converge as in the other two species, and, correspondingly, the fore and mesocoxae are separated by more than one fore coxal width (separated by less than the fore coxal width in other two species).</paragraph>

<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="115">Western Little Karoo (the unit covers most of the western basin of the Little Karoo from the confluence of the Groot and Gouritz Rivers in the west as far as Anysberg by surrounding this mountain range and also extending along the northern flanks of the Klein Swartberg; two larger patches of the Western Little Karoo are found immediately to the east and south of Touws River, and one small isolated patch fringes the Langeberg Mountains in the Montagu area; altitude 160-1060 m (most of the area at 300-860 m).</paragraph>
