D. Chu & C. S. Chao + +), at +1380 m +a. s. l. The species is only known from this single locality in Napo County, +Guangxi +Autonomous Region, +China +(Fig. +3 +). + + + + + + +Distribution map of + +Tarenna pendula + +(triangle) and + +Tarenna tsangii + +(dots). + + + + + +Conservation status. + + + +Tarenna pendula + +is only known from Baxiong Mountain, Defu Nature Reserve, Napo County, +Guangxi +, +China +with about 250 individuals recorded to date. Currently the species is only known from a single location. This location is inside a well-protected nature reserve, and as such, the species does not qualify for any threat condition. However, during fieldwork we noticed that the understory of the evergreen broadleaf forests in which + +T. pendula + +grows is being colonized by luxuriant bamboo, which may constitute a danger to the new species. +A +second possible threatening factor for this apparently rare and narrow-ranged species is a limited capacity of natural regeneration. The conservation status for + +Tarenna pendula + +thus needs further study. We therefore assess the species as Data Deficient. + + + + +Etymology. + + +The specific epithet is derived from the pendulous inflorescence, which differs from several other + +Tarenna +spp. + +in the area. + + + + +Vernacular name. + + +Chuixiu wukoushu +in Mandarin Chinese, which translates to ‘ pendulous + +Tarenna + +’. + + + + +Similar species. + + + +Tarenna pendula + +is similar to + +T. tsangii + +but is easily distinguished by its small form. Further diagnostic morphological characters of the new species and related species are presented in Table +1 +. + +It is challenging to distinguish different species based on morphological characters alone. However, after carefully scrutinizing the morphological characters of the new species and related species, we found that the new species is easily recognized by its pendulous cymose inflorescences and large number of seeds per fruit. Although + +T. tsangii + +has a much larger distribution range than + +T. pendula + +, their areas do not overlap. Because the distribution range of + +T. pendula + +is immediately adjacent to that of + +T. tsangii + +, we hypothesize that these two species may be allopatric. Given the complicated evolutionary relationship among + +Tarenna +species + +, future studies should investigate the plant diversity and phylogeny of this genus in greater detail. + +

Based on the similarity of wing pattern, males could participate in a mimicry ring with other similar species in this genus, such as + +D. centenaria + +(see below) and + +D. inominatum + +, among others. + + + + +Material examined. + + +1 male +, +Brazil +, +Rio de Janeiro +; +1 female +, +Brazil +, +Rio de Janeiro +. + + + + \ No newline at end of file diff --git a/data/69/97/0A/69970A9C4CCE54018D7C9577A75F5C96.xml b/data/69/97/0A/69970A9C4CCE54018D7C9577A75F5C96.xml new file mode 100644 index 00000000000..7d359f3de5c --- /dev/null +++ b/data/69/97/0A/69970A9C4CCE54018D7C9577A75F5C96.xml @@ -0,0 +1,100 @@ + + + +Illustrated catalogue of Pericopina (Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Arctiinae) in the Museum of Nature Hamburg – Zoology + + + +Author + +Moraes, Simeão de Souza +0000-0001-9567-0944 +Museu de Diversidade Biológica, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Rua Monteiro Lobato, 255, Campinas, SP, CEP 13083 - 862, Brazil + + + +Author + +Freitas, André Victor Lucci +Museu de Diversidade Biológica, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Rua Monteiro Lobato, 255, Campinas, SP, CEP 13083 - 862, Brazil + + + +Author + +Silva-Brandão, Karina Lucas +0000-0002-6423-424X +Departamento de Biologia Animal, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Rua Monteiro Lobato, 255, Campinas, SP, CEP 13083 - 862, Brazil + +text + + +Evolutionary Systematics + + +2025 + +2025-06-03 + + +9 + + +1 + + +123 +134 + + + +journal article +10.3897/evolsyst.9.150930 +04EA2B76-CFE2-43B3-A3AE-7D4FB987D781 + + + + + +Composia credula +(Fabricius, 1775) + + + + + +Fig. 1 F + + + + +Remarks. + + + +Composia credula + +is non-sexually dimorphic and is distributed mainly in Central America, with records in the islands of +Puerto Rico +, +Jamaica +, +Cuba +and +the Dominican +Republic. The available information is restricted to the original description and its inclusion in faunal survey lists. This species is documented within the Amazon biome. + +Eucyane dejanira + +was previously allocated in the genus + +Hypocrita + +and subsequently moved to + +Eucyane + +by Laguerre (2017) based on a maximum likelihood analysis using CO 1 gene. However, this taxonomic decision shall be taken with caution because (i) while CO 1 is effective and species-level identification, the high mutation rate can make it challenging to compare sequences across very diverse taxa because when comparing distant lineages, similar nucleotide changes may occur independently in different lineages, leading to misleading phylogenetic relationships (ii) the taxonomic coverage used by Laguerre (2017) is narrow and should include more Pericopina genera. + + +For instance, +Moraes et al. (2021) +showed a phylogentic hypotesys where the genus + +Hypocrita + +is polyphyletic consisting of two unrelated groups (i) + +Hypocrita +“ +sensu strictu + +” phylogenetically close to + +Netoche + +(ii) the other clade represented by + +E. temperata + +is phylogenetically close to the genera + +Ephestris + +and +Thirgis +. A wider taxonomic samplig and the use of nuclear genes are needed to clarify the phylogenetic relationship and the taxonomic valitidy of the genera + +Eucyane + +, + +Hypocrita + +, + +Chetone + +and + +Netoche + +, mainly because the evolution of the colour pattern within these genera was driven by mimicry relationships. + + + + +Material examined. + + +1 male +, +Venezuela +. + + + + \ No newline at end of file diff --git a/data/6E/FE/DD/6EFEDDF2719D5EFD92CA88239F39171D.xml b/data/6E/FE/DD/6EFEDDF2719D5EFD92CA88239F39171D.xml new file mode 100644 index 00000000000..b1d773853e3 --- /dev/null +++ b/data/6E/FE/DD/6EFEDDF2719D5EFD92CA88239F39171D.xml @@ -0,0 +1,120 @@ + + + +Mixtacandona thessalica, a new species of ostracod (Crustacea, Ostracoda) from a sulfidic cave in central Greece + + + +Author + +Rossetti, Giampaolo +0000-0002-8136-6965 +Department of Chemistry, Life Science and Environmental Sustainability, University of Parma, 43124 Parma, Italy + + + +Author + +Sarbu, Serban M. +0000-0001-8126-7193 +“ Emil Racoviţă ” Institute of Speleology, 400006 Cluj Napoca, Romania & California State University, Department of Biological Sciences, Chico, CA, 95973, USA + + + +Author + +Ștefan, Andrei +0000-0003-2339-210X +“ Emil Racoviţă ” Institute of Speleology, 400006 Cluj Napoca, Romania & “ Grigore Antipa ” National Museum of Natural History, 011341 Bucharest, Romania + + + +Author + +Motoc, Rozalia +0000-0002-2724-8458 +“ Grigore Antipa ” National Museum of Natural History, 011341 Bucharest, Romania + + + +Author + +Mazzini, Ilaria +0000-0003-2164-7826 +CNR - IGAG, Area della Ricerca di Roma 1, 00015 Montelibretti, Rome, Italy + +text + + +Subterranean Biology + + +2025 + +2025-06-03 + + +52 + + +111 +133 + + + +journal article +10.3897/subtbiol.52.142113 +B8B54667-384D-4498-BE7F-BBA4439AEAFD + + + + +Genus + +Mixtacandona +Klie, 1938 + + + + + +Diagnosis of the genus + + + +(after +Mazzini et al. 2017 +). + +carapace +0.48–0.80 mm +long, W <1 / +3 L. +Calcified inner lamella of valves narrow, marginal pore canals rare.
