First median tergite 1.6 times longer than wide; second median tergite 1.4 times wider than long; median tergite 1 rugosostriate, except smooth near posterior margin; median tergite 2 mostly smooth with a weak indication of longitudinal sculpture at midlength. Color: (Melanic color of head restricted to ocellar triangle in the sole paratype.)</paragraph>

This species is distinguished by the dense mesonotal mycangial tuft that extends laterally from the scutellum to striae 3; declivital posterolateral margin obliquely costate to interstriae 5; elytral disc with a weak transverse saddle-like depression; declivital summit with large incurved spine on interstriae 2, interstriae 3 with two additional unequally sized denticles ventrad to large spine; declivity weakly sulcate to interstriae 3; declivital strial punctures large each bearing a recumbent seta, interstriae minutely punctate, punctures uniseriate, setose, setae erect, hair-like; body moderately sized and abundantly covered with long erect hair-like setae; declivity shiny; and pronotal asperities small, coarse, densely spaced.

: epistoma entire, transverse, with a row of hair-like setae. Frons moderately impressed above epistoma then weakly convex to upper level of eyes, impunctate, median area of with a oval-shaped smooth, glabrous, strongly shiny area; lateral areas shagreened, coarsely rugose, setose; each ruga bearing a long, erect hair-like seta. Eyes shallowly emarginate just above antennal insertion, upper part smaller than lower part. Submentum large, distinctly triangular, slightly impressed. Antennal scape regularly thick, as long as club. Pedicel as wide as scape, shorter than funicle. Funicle 4-segmented, segment 1 as long as pedicel. Club longer than wide, obliquely truncate, type 1; segment 1 corneous, encircling anterior face; segment 2 narrow, concave, corneous on anterior face only; sutures absent on posterior face.

In lateral view type 3, short and tall, disc as long as anterior slope, summit at midpoint. Anterior slope with widely spaced, large coarse asperities, becoming lower and more strongly transverse towards summit. Disc subshiny, median area weakly rugose, lateral areas with dense, large, shallow punctures bearing moderate, erect hair-like setae, some longer hair-like setae at margins. Lateral margins obliquely costate. Base transverse, posterior angles broadly rounded. Mycangial tuft present along basal margin tuft broad, densely setose, laterally extending to elytral striae 3.

Vertex slightly wider at base than at apical carina; lateral carinae slightly to moderately elevated; angle formed by caudal border of vertex V-shaped, strongly obtuse (almost 180°); apical carina slightly bent (almost straight); subapical transverse carina absent; median longitudinal carina covering 1/2 to 1/3 of length of vertex. In dorsal view, head including eyes distinctly narrower than pronotum. Frons invisible in dorsal view. Maximum width of frons more than twice apical width, steadily broadening; frons widest distinctly dorsad of centre of frontoclypeal suture. Lateral carinae of frons slightly elevated, foliaceous, moderately extending laterally, concealing base of antennae. Median ocellus of frons absent. Frontoclypeal suture straight to only very slightly bent, median part not reaching lower margin of antennal scape. Postclypeus with median carina and lateral carinae absent or very weakly developed. Anteclypeus without carinae. Rostrum very short, not reaching hind coxae (only reaching mid coxae). Apical and subapical rostrum segments subequal in length.

Mesonotum with median carina weakly developed, evanescent or absent near anterior margin, absent near posterior margin; lateral carinae of mesonotum weakly developed. Forewings moderately tectiform; surpassing tip of abdomen; widest slightly distad of apex of clavus; concavity at costal border barely visible; no tubercles in cells at apex of wing, only along veins or in pterostigma; ScP+R+MP forming a very long common stem distad of basal cell; crossvein r-m 1 at same level or slightly distad of fork MP1+2 and MP3+4; nodus of y-vein (fork PCu and A1) central to slightly basad within clavus. Description.

</emphasis>
Head and pronotum yellowish, mesonotum orange-yellowish, with the following dark markings (dark brown or black): vertex with two dark longitudinal stripes which extend onto mesonotum, pronotum with dark areas anterior to submedian (= postocular) carinae, frons with a dark spot near top of head. Legs and body yellowish apart from mid to dark brown tergites. Forewing hyaline light brown; tubercles and veins concolorous with cells; dark markings on ScP, several marks near apical margin of wing and a large, ovoid mark around branches of MP that is connected to several darkened sections of the veins MP and CuA.

This adventive Palaearctic species lives in both dry and wet habitats in the Palaearctic region, including meadows, fields, heaths, forests, and hilly steppe (

). Adults occurred in decaying organic matter and compost, under stones, and among leaves. In New Brunswick, adults were collected from grass litter and drift material along river margins and from decaying gilled mushrooms and decaying (moldy) corncobs and cornhusks in mixed and hardwood forests. One individual was collected from wet moss on rocks adjacent to a waterfall. Adults become active very early in the season when a deep snow cover is still present, as a number of very active adults were collected from a sun-exposed bare patch of drift material on an upper river margin on 12 April when a 60-cm snow pack was still present. Adults were captured during April, May, June, and September.
