<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="11">Adult female, n = 8. Presumed to secrete scale cover. Body 1.22-1.53 mm long, broadest near posterior end of prosoma, that is, fused head and prothorax (0.82-1.01 mm); body outline roughly turbinate (head and thorax broad, abdomen tapering caudally), incised between pro- and mesothorax, each pre-pygidial abdominal segment with membranous tooth on margin, each tooth with seta at base.</paragraph>
<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="11">
Pygidium with three well-developed lobes on each side, each roughly rectangular in shape, with distinct longitudinal striations, notch on lateral corner of apex, small paraphysis extending longitudinally from near medial edge. Each lobe extending out from body margin approximately parallel to longitudinal body axis. A small sclerotic tooth anterolateral of L3 may represent L4. Two fimbriate plates between medial lobes (L1), two between L1 and L2, 2-3 between L2 and L3, 3 anterior of L3. Pygidial margin serrate anterior to L3. Dorsum of pygidium with large medial sclerite, subtriangular, with lateral edges converging to base of L2 on each side, texture reticulate, becoming striate posteriorly, short furrow of membranous cuticle between L1 and L2, not reaching anus. Two additional dorsal sclerites, each with striated texture, first extending anterolateral from base of L3, separated from medial sclerite by membranous furrow, second lateral of the first, with another membranous furrow between them. provide a diagnosis. Adult females of

have (1) a deep constriction of the body outline between the prothorax and mesothorax; (2) reticulations on the pygidial dorsum; (3) four pairs of pygidial lobes, each similar in shape and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body; (4) well-developed plates; (5) paraphyses present or absent; if present, short; (6) slender, one-barred dorsal macroducts, each with a sclerotic rim around orifice; (7) submarginal macroducts in pore furrows; (8) the antenna with one long seta; (9) quinquelocular pores near each anterior spiracle; (10) anus small, in posterior third of pygidium; (11) the vulva anterior to anus; and (12) perivulvar pores present or absent. The adult female of
<taxonomicName lsidName="P. dugdaleii" pageId="0" pageNumber="11" rank="species" species="dugdaleii">P. dugdaleii</taxonomicName>
fits each of these specifications. It can be distinguished from its congeners by (1) having a membranous tooth-like projection on the posterolateral corner of each prepygidial abdominal segment, (2) lacking perivulvar pores posterior to the vulva, and (3) having macroducts near the posterior margin of pygidium with heavy sclerotization along one or both sides of the orifice.
</paragraph>
<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="11">We have excluded one adult female specimen from the type series, although it was part of the same collection event (and presumably from the same host plant). We also excluded this specimen from the description above. This specimen differs from the others in several ways. Specifically, it (1) is longer, 2.14 mm, 40% longer than the next longest specimen; (2) has more quinquelocular pores near the anterior spiracles (11, whereas the others have between 4 and 6); (3) lacks distinct marginal teeth on pre-pygidial abdominal segments; and (4) has a well-developed L4. In all other respects, it looks like the other females in the same lot.</paragraph>

Labrum, mouth parts, antennae, clypeus and anterior half of frons yellowish; remaining portions of cranium black; pronotum yellowish with large mesal black spot, spot narrowed near middle; scutellum brownish. Eyes well protruding, with large facets, semicircular in outline; HW: 0.38 mm, ID: 0.20 mm. Antennae 11-segmented, 0.46 mm long, moderately longer than pronotum; ratio of length of antennomeres 1-11: 0.055: 0.061: 0.042: 0.030: 0.031: 0.030: 0.029: 0.029: 0.032: 0.037: 0.089 mm. ). Generally, any fusion of elytral spots is rather rarely seen and if, then only the three posterior spots fuse. The elytral surface appears shinier and smoother; the anterior transverse pronotal groove is deep, and areas anterior and posterior of these grooves are strongly gibbous, and their body form appears generally shorter and more convex. In comparison, the specimens from Sarawak and Brunei lowlands (Gunung Mulu NP, Kapit area, Kampong Bayur, Kampong Jangkar, Temburong) usually have a paler cranium, and their pronotal spots are more distinct, smaller and isolated (Fig.

The altitude of all collection sites ranges from 40-1200 m a.s.l; the species is described from a small stream near Arur Dalan in the Kelabit Highlands (1000-1200 m a.s.l.). It is an upper reach (epirhithron), ca 3 m wide, with boulders and cascades, flowing through degraded primary forest. Water quality is presumably very good since the stream serves as drinking water for the settlements. Current and bottom substrates are heterogeneous; the latter includes mineral and organic deposits. All

is ca 10 m wide, shallow, slowly flowing, entirely shaded, with stony and sandy substrates and numerous fallen trees. Forest streams near Ramudu,

are ca 4-7 m wide, slowly flowing and meandering, with stones, some cobbles and sand substrates, submerged woods, leaf packs and exposed roots. Specimens were collected mostly from submerged dead wood, however, a few specimens come also from submerged roots of tree or bamboo. The Petarutung River in

is 7-10 m wide, shallow, meandering, with sandy bottom and represents the only reddish colored river where some specimens were found (water color is probably due to humic substances from a nearby peat swamp forest). Outside the Kelabit Highlands

<paragraph pageId="0" pageNumber="25">This species is widely distributed in northern Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei). In Sarawak it was collected in several small tributaries of the Dapur and the Kelapang rivers in the Kelabit Highlands; small tributaries of the Tutoh and the Melinau Paku rivers in and near the Gunung Mulu National Park; tributaries of the Sut River near Kapit, the Jangkar River near Lundu and a small stream near Kampung Bayur (Kuching area). In Sabah, it is known from the tributaries of Sapulut River near Batu Punggul; small tributaries of the Kuamut River as well as the Agatis River and a small tributary of the Maliau River. In Brunei, the species was collected from the Belalong River and from one of its small tributaries.</paragraph>
