Approximately one-half of the dome, adjacent to the shield, is smooth, with numerous tiny pores, visible on TEM. Another half of the dome is covered with fine ribs and reticulation. The shield is covered with a thick siliceous layer patterned with a reticulum of meshes forming small polygonal apertures and circular, unevenly spaced depressions (pits). The depressions are 0.2–0.3 μm in diameter, they are surrounded by a thickened ring, their number varies from 1 to 12, usually more than 4. The shield is ornamented with scattered and unevenly distributed papillae. The V-rib is rounded and slightly hooded. The anterior flanges are wide, raised above the shield, with regularly spaced fine parallel ribs joined with cross ribs forming a reticulum of rectangular meshes. The posterior rim is relatively narrow, encircles about one-third of the scale perimeter and has internal struts. The posterior flange is wide and smooth.
