). Anteromesoscutum and scutellar disc with relatively deep and close punctures, and with long, white setae.

T1 with longitudinal sulcus on anterior 0.6-0.7, posterior 0.3 with two sublateral carinae which are barely visible (the latter might be an artifact due to specimen condition). T2 transverse, with smoother central area, slightly elevated from coarser lateral areas. T2+ with relatively long, sparse, white setae, which are mostly locate laterally on terga. Hypopygium folded medially and with several pleats. Ovipositor sheaths shorter than metatibia length.

This species is found widely across the tropical and subtropical areas of China, also in other parts of the world. It is most closely related to

(Bagnall). Their males are difficult to distinguish from each other as their pore plates are very similar in shape (Figs 14, 71, 76), but the females can be distinguished from those of
<taxonomicName lsidName="P. lewisi" pageId="7" pageNumber="32" rank="species" species="lewisi">P. lewisi</taxonomicName>
by the length of the postocellar setae that are usually as long as the diameter of an ocellus or shorter, and the colour of the antennae and head that are almost uniformly brown (Fig. 13) (

Diagnosis. This species group is defined by the following suite of characters: an angular gill slit; presence of a shallow subopercular groove, which extends to the pectoral fin origin; absence of scales on belly; absence of a secondary rostrum; absence of a postoral pouch; and presence of brightly coloured fins in life.
