Body length

; species with dark grey thorax and piceous black abdomen, with tergites bordered by pale yellow stripes; apical half of the scutellum with a remarkably dark spot (fig. 34); setal vestiture yellow; wings with pale yellow to whitish membrane; radial and medial veins distinctly brown. Head higher than long; ventral face slightly prominent; eye oblique, markedly oblong, its longest diameter 1.92.5 times as long as the height of the gena; gena whitish, with obvious, translucent, longitudinal stripe; mouth parts with labella shorter than the length of the buccal cavity; palpus long and narrow; thorax dark grey; mesonotum with darker, longitudinal stripes; 2 rows of acrostichal setulae; prescutellar acrostichals lacking; both proepisternal and proepimeral setae present; legs yellow, with apical tarsomere of mid and hind legs infuscated; crossveins of wing with no trace of white halo; surstylus in lateral view as in figure 35.

Munari (2005a) noticed that the specimens from

differ from the
<typeStatus id="549788700B69FFE0F712F998FAF9F98E" box="[1122,1181,1589,1613]" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">types</typeStatus>
from Elat (
<collectingCountry id="F33B76420B69FFE0F650F999FB06F98E" box="[1312,1378,1588,1613]" name="Israel" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">Israel</collectingCountry>
, Red Sea coast) mainly by the slightly broader and darker scutellar spot, and the epiproct of the female postabdomen bearing a pair of moderately long, thin setae, instead of stout setae. Otherwise, all the external features, including the chaetotactic pattern of the female cerci, perfectly match those of the
<typeStatus id="549788700B69FFE0F0BDF90CFA68F97A" box="[973,1036,1697,1721]" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">types</typeStatus>
.

for the external features of this species, Munari (2005a) compared the
<typeStatus id="549788700B69FFE0F124F968FCE0F91E" box="[596,644,1733,1757]" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">type</typeStatus>
series (
<collectingCountry id="F33B76420B69FFE0F1ACF969FD73F91F" box="[732,791,1732,1756]" name="China" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">TAU</collectingCountry>
) with the Arabian specimens, finding a strong similarity between the specimens from the Red Sea coast of
<collectingCountry id="F33B76420B69FFE0F1B9F945FD63F8C2" box="[713,775,1768,1793]" name="Israel" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">Israel</collectingCountry>
and those from
<collectingCountry id="F33B76420B69FFE0F0CEF945FD9AF8C3" box="[958,1022,1768,1792]" name="Qatar" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">Qatar</collectingCountry>
. In addition, the morphological traits of the male terminalia, as figured by Freidberg and Beschovski (1996), agree rather well with the lateral profile of those of the specimens from
<collectingCountry id="F33B76420B69FFE0F298F89DFC4CF88B" box="[488,552,1840,1864]" name="Qatar" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">Qatar</collectingCountry>
. Indeed, Munari (2005a) deliberately avoided dissecting the
<typeStatus id="549788700B69FFE0F797F89DFB2DF88A" box="[1255,1353,1840,1865]" pageId="17" pageNumber="506" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
of this species, it being the only specimen of the
<typeStatus id="549788700B69FFE0F11CF8F8FCF8F8AE" box="[620,668,1877,1901]" pageId="17" pageNumber="506">type</typeStatus>
series in good condition and with intact abdomen.
