<paragraph pageId="16" pageNumber="127">Brown nuchal spot absent or very inconspicuous. Gray upper-back (mantle) and hindneck, with greenish-gray upper wing-coverts. No white or pale feathers whatsoever on the lower chest. Basic phrase of the song bisyllabic (see details above).</paragraph>

Coastal Brazil from Santos,

Paulo state, south to Guaratuba Bay,
<normalizedToken originalValue="Paraná">Parana</normalizedToken>
state (Figures 1 and 12). A single USNM specimen from Santa Catarina state is also mentioned by
<bibRefCitation author="Bangs, O" journalOrPublisher="The American Naturalist" pageId="19" pageNumber="130" pagination="177 - 187" title="On the Wood Rails, Genus Aramides, Occurring North of Panama." url="http://www.jstor.org/stable/2455179" volume="41" year="1907">Bangs (1907)</bibRefCitation>
. According to him, it agrees completely with BMNH 89.11.20 from the
<normalizedToken originalValue="Paraná">Parana</normalizedToken>
coast, which we examined and is a typical
<taxonomicName lsidName="avicenniae" pageId="16" pageNumber="127" rank="subspecies" species="avicenniae" subspecies="avicenniae">avicenniae</taxonomicName>
. The USNM specimen mentioned by Bangs could not be examined by us, but indicates that the
<normalizedToken originalValue="species">species'</normalizedToken>
distribution may extend further south to at least Santa Catarina.
