This species superficially resembles the Lessepsian
<taxonomicName baseAuthorityName="Issel" baseAuthorityYear="1869" class="Bivalvia" family="Cerithiopsidae" genus="Cerithiopsis" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Cerithiopsis pulvis" pageId="0" pageNumber="1" phylum="Mollusca" rank="species" species="pulvis">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="0" pageNumber="1">Cerithiopsis pulvis</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
but has a more cyrtoconoid shape and a greater ratio between the height of the last whorl and that of the shell. The base is not concave as in
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. pulvis" pageId="0" pageNumber="1" rank="species" species="pulvis">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="0" pageNumber="1">C. pulvis</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
, bears a fourth spiral cord which is more prominently tuberculate, and an additional fifth tuberculate cord that is not present in typical
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. pulvis" pageId="0" pageNumber="1" rank="species" species="pulvis">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="0" pageNumber="1">C. pulvis</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
. Additionally, the siphonal canal bears numerous fine cords. The color pattern is similar to
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. pulvis" pageId="0" pageNumber="1" rank="species" species="pulvis">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="0" pageNumber="1">C. pulvis</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
which has orange bands on white background; in contrast, in
<taxonomicName lsidName="C. pulvis" pageId="0" pageNumber="1" rank="species" species="pulvis">C. aff. pulvis</taxonomicName>
these are brown and yellowish, respectively. It is distinct from any native Mediterranean species and clearly belongs to an Indo-Pacific clade. It is here considered a new non-indigenous species.
