The distal one-third of the tail is also dark, but it is occasionally tipped with white.

It is reported to occur in Manongarivo Special Reserve and Tsaratanana Strict Nature Reserve. Neither area is well protected at this time, although significant tracts of suitable forest habitat remain within the distribution of the Sambirano Fork-marked
