The colour of the body and legs (dark brown) matches the wood substrate where the animal was found and it uses the spiniform ventral margins of the ambulatory meri to help anchor itself to the wood (J. Arbasto, pers. comm.). Freshly caught specimens were very dirty, being covered with detritus and mud, clearly a consequence of its setose body and pereiopods. This probably aids in camouflaging them against the wood as well.
