specimens taken in 1931 on Mt. Hitikau, the highest summit on the small island of Ua Huka, in the

). No specimens have been seen since, so an effort was made on
<date id="002AB3AFFFF2FF83F4F4FAFDFCDDFA54" box="[688,891,1389,1415]" pageId="21" pageNumber="90" value="1999-11-02">2 November 1999</date>
to revist the type-locality in search of additional examples. Cloud forest on Ua Huka is confined to the eastern portion of the island's central ridge, lying around
<quantity id="B36C388AFFF2FF83F336FA01FF0BFA03" metricMagnitude="2" metricUnit="m" metricValue="9.0" pageId="21" pageNumber="90" unit="m" value="900.0">900 m</quantity>
elevation, and the name Hitikau means “the mountain where one goes up by swimming through vegetation.” This appellation is appropriate, in that Hitikau was the only summit sampled in the
<collectingRegion id="B6505B8DFFF2FF83F271FA4AFB08FA27" box="[1077,1198,1498,1524]" country="French Polynesia" name="Iles Marquises" pageId="21" pageNumber="90">Marquesas</collectingRegion>
which lacked mossy, emergent trees, being covered instead with a rather uniform mixture of low stature
