De pequenos a médios (3 a 8 mm), estes percevejos têm coloração escura, escutelo bem desenvolvido, convexo, recobrindo todo abdome e a maior parte da asa anterior; geralmente o exocório é amarelado. Tratados por alguns autores como subfamília de

é o mais diverso, com 156 espécies em 15 subgêneros. São abundantes e bastante diversos, mas a biologia das espécies neotropicais é praticamente desconhecida (Grazia et al., no prelo, b). Treze espécies pertencentes a três gêneros foram registradas para São Paulo. A taxonomia do grupo na região Neotropical está desatualizada.
